So I'm at a barbecue and my uncle asks if I just play with joysticks all day...
I was at a family barbecue last week and my uncle, who's a truck driver, started asking about my job. He thought operating a crane was like playing a video game, just moving joysticks around. I began to explain all the math and safety checks we do, but he kept comparing it to his simulator games. We ended up laughing about it, and I even showed him some pics on my phone. Now he wants to come visit a site sometime.

Seriously, this kind of thing is everywhere now. People see one tool and think they get the whole job. Cool that sharing some pictures actually changed his mind.

Feels like that happens with most things these days.

My buddy bought a fancy camera thinking he'd be a pro photographer overnight. His vacation pics still look like a toddler took them. All the gear, zero idea how to use it.

You know, what's interesting is how we forget the learning curve. Everyone wants instant results, so they grab a tool and think they're set. But real know-how comes from practice, lots of it. Like, my cousin tried to fix his car with just a YouTube video and messed up the engine. Pictures or videos show the messy middle part, not just the shiny end product. That's why seeing proof works, it shows the gap between having a tool and doing the job right.
