Can we talk about the 10 minute timer trick that finally got my half finished short stories moving again?

What do you do when the 10 minutes ends and you're mid sentence though? That's where I always get stuck. Do you stop dead or ride it out till the thought dies? And is it 10 minutes a day or 10 minutes per story? Curious how you set it up because my half finished stuff is piling up.
