My writing group told me my dialogue sounded like a robot from a 1980s movie.
They said every character talked the same way, using perfect grammar and no contractions. I started listening to real conversations at the coffee shop and writing down how people actually speak. What's one piece of feedback that totally changed how you write a specific thing?

Yeah that's a tough one. My editor told me to stop using so many dialogue tags. Just "he said" is fine, you know? Changed everything for me.

Too real" is a weird complaint. Mine once told me my characters sounded like aliens.
