Took 6 months to figure out my antagonist was too nice
I kept writing scenes where my villain was supposed to feel menacing, but every draft fell flat and I couldn't see why. Then I finally read my dialogue out loud and realized he never once interrupted anyone or raised his voice, he just politely explained his evil plans. Has anyone else had a character flaw hide in plain sight for way too long, and what finally clicked for you?

Realized my hero was way too agreeable after rereading page one, took me three months to give him a spine.
