Found a closed account from 2016 still reporting on my Experian file last Tuesday
I was checking my free annual report from AnnualCreditReport.com and saw an old store card from a place called 'Furniture Plus' that I closed back in 2016. It was still showing up as an open account, which was messing with my credit age. I called Experian's dispute line and they fixed it in about 3 days. Has anyone else had a closed account stick around way longer than it should?

My buddy had an old Best Buy card from 2012 that stayed on his report as open for almost two years after he closed it. He finally had to send them a copy of his final statement to get it removed.

Honestly, that sounds like a weird situation with your buddy's card. Tbh, I closed a store card a while back and it fell off my report pretty quick on its own. Ngl, sending a final statement seems like a lot of work, I've never had to do that. Usually they just update after a month or two in my experience.

My old Chase card took over a year to update as closed. Some lenders are just slow to report it. I had to call them twice to get it fixed.
