Friend told me to freeze my credit card for 3 months to rebuild my score

A buddy from my poker game swore freezing my Capitol One card in a block of ice would force me to stop using it and boost my credit. It actually worked, score jumped from 612 to 648 in 90 days. Has anyone else tried weird DIY credit hacks that ended up working?

Wait, did your score really jump that much or was it mostly from paying down the balance?

People keep talking about score jumps like it's some major life event. A 30 point bump is nice but it's not going to change your whole financial situation overnight. Are we really acting like a few points either way is that big of a deal?

Did you end up with a bigger score jump than expected? That happened to me last year when I paid off two cards completely (one was almost maxed out). My score went up about 30 points just from reducing the utilization ratio, which was way more than I thought it would be.
