Vent: The hardware store credit card push in my neighborhood
Yesterday at the local hardware store, the cashier pushed their credit card on me during checkout. I saw the same thing happen to the folks in line, all getting the same spiel. They dangle a 10% discount to get you to apply right then. I thought about it for a second, but then recalled how store cards can mess with your credit if you're not careful. My neighbor Jim signed up for one last month and his credit score took a hit because of the hard inquiry. Now he's stuck with another card he doesn't need. It's frustrating how these offers pop up in everyday places. I've been telling people around here to think twice before jumping on these deals.

Saw a thing online about how store credit cards hit your credit hard with inquiries. Pretty shady how they push them like that.

The Macy's card people always act like they're doing you a solid while tanking your score.

Yeah, @knight.lee mentioned inquiries, and it reminds me of my friend who got a card at some electronics store. Her credit took a hit just for a lousy discount. Pretty wild how they don't tell you the full story.

My cousin works in finance and she told me these store cards often have crazy high interest rates too, like way worse than a regular card. That 10% off is a one time thing, but if you carry a balance you end up paying way more. They really bank on people not reading the fine print. It feels like they're taking advantage when you're just trying to buy some light bulbs or something. What's the worst store card pitch you've had to deal with?
