Two-factor backup codes saved me after a wiped phone last week

Lost my phone on the train in Portland last Tuesday, and I had no idea how locked out I was gonna be. Good thing I printed my backup codes for all my accounts and stuck them in a safe, not just in the cloud. I tried the recovery email route first, but that required the same 2FA app. The paper backup took 10 minutes to get me back into everything, including my bank and email. Anyone else keep a physical copy of their codes or do you trust the cloud with that stuff?

Man, paper backups are the way to go. I remember a buddy of mine had his whole life in a password manager on his phone, and when it died on him during a fishing trip, he was totally stuck for two days because he thought the cloud sync would just work. Took him forever to get his brother to mail him a printout of his codes from a folder he'd left at their mom's house. I keep mine in a little fireproof box in my garage now, next to my spare keys and a bag of old receipts I've been meaning to toss for years.
