A guy at the shop in Odessa told me to stop torquing head bolts in one pass, and my comebacks dropped off a cliff
I was doing a 6.7 Cummins head gasket in March and running all the bolts down in one pull with the big torque wrench, figured faster was fine since it always held. He said 'you're stretching them uneven, do it in thirds and come back around' and I laughed it off, then the truck came back 4 weeks later leaking at cylinder 3. Now I run every head in three steps and re-check the pattern twice, and I have not had a comeback since. Anybody else get taught the one-pass way and have to unlearn it, or am I the only one who had to eat a job to figure it out?
