Finally tackled a sticky injector on a 7.3 Powerstroke by myself
Been chasing a rough idle for weeks on my 2002 F-250. Took it to a shop and they wanted $800 just to diagnose it. Watched about a dozen Youtube videos and decided to try pulling the injectors myself last weekend. The number 8 cylinder was carboned up bad but I got it out without snapping anything. Has anyone else had luck with ATF and acetone mix for freeing up stuck injectors?

Gotta laugh at myself here because I just spent 4 hours cussing at a seized injector in my driveway before remembering I left my impact in the truck bed the whole time, so thanks @kimr91 for the warning about that mix cause I was about to grab the ATF next. You try the brake cleaner and brush route yet or are you still soaking it?

Hold up before you dump ATF and acetone in there. Honestly that mix can eat up the o-rings and make a bigger mess than you started with. I've seen guys do that and end up with a hydro locked engine cause the seals swelled and blocked the return paths. Tbh a good penetrating oil like Kroil or even just PB Blaster works way better and won't wreck your seals. Ngl if that number 8 was carboned up that bad you probably got fuel leak issues or a bad glow plug causing incomplete burn. I'd focus on cleaning the bore with a brass brush and brake cleaner instead of risking that solvent cocktail.

Buddy of mine tried the ATF and acetone mix on his old Powerstroke. Ended up with o-rings so swollen he had to pull the injectors just to get the thing to turn over. Cost him a weekend and a whole lot of cussing to fix what started as a simple carbon cleanup.
