Rant: Finding a weird noise in my diesel van took some creative thinking
Honestly, this knocking sound only showed up when the engine was warm, and it had me stumped. Tbh, I thought it was a rod bearing at first, but the oil pressure was fine. Ngl, I spent a whole weekend checking injectors and loose bolts with no luck. I finally hooked up a cheap stethoscope and traced it to the vacuum pump bracket rubbing on the block. A washer to space it out fixed the noise completely. Has anyone run into something silly like that before? It's wild how simple fixes can be hiding in plain sight.

Whole weekend for a washer?" seems overkill.

From what grant413 said, 'whole weekend' seems like a lot, but it's really not. Last time I did this, I spent half a day just dealing with a stuck drain hose that was rusted shut. Then you have to hook up the water lines, level the machine so it doesn't shake, and that's if nothing else breaks. So yeah, a full weekend can easily disappear on what seems like a simple swap.

Last time my washer died, it took eight hours just to get the old one out and the new one in. If @grant413 thinks a weekend is overkill, they've never had a hose connection snap and flood their laundry room. Dealing with the rusty bolts and leveling the new one alone eats up a full day.
