Hot take: that trending AI background remover plugin cost me $89 and 2 days of my life
I know everyone in here loves showing off those clean cutouts, but I have to push back on the tool that keeps getting posted. I paid $89 for a one year license back in March and ran it on 40 of my own illustrations with detailed line work. It ate the fine hair strokes on 31 of them and left weird halos around the colored edges. Then I wasted about 2 days in Photoshop fixing what it messed up. A $12 pack of action brushes from a small artist on Gumroad did better in one click. Has anyone found a remover that actually holds up on inked line art, or should I just go back to masking by hand?
Sketching would like a word with you though. Raw edges show up in tons of sketch style line art on purpose, and it works great when the artist actually wants that loose, unfinished look. The problem isn't raw edges plus line art, it's raw edges plus clean line art, because then the edges look sloppy next to all those perfect strokes. Match the level of polish and the two get along just fine. Messy lines with messy edges can look way better than either one on its own. Plenty of comic artists build their whole style around that combo.
