The juror who called my digital piece 'just a filter' made me rethink my process

At a small gallery show in Portland last month, a guy on the jury looked at my layered portrait and said it was 'just a filter on a photo.' He missed that I built it from 40 separate brush passes over 6 days. But his comment stuck because I realized I never show a work-in-progress gif or a quick breakdown of layers in my online portfolio. That context matters to people who don't know digital work. Does anyone else post their layer counts or time-lapses to stop the 'just a filter' assumption, or do you let the final piece speak alone?
