Went with the free version over pro. No regrets so far.
I was picking a drawing app for my tablet. Pro version had all these fancy brushes and layers. Free one was basic but let me test if I even liked digital art. 2 weeks in now and I've made 5 pieces I actually like. Anyone else stick with the free tools longer than they planned?

Had a buddy who swore by the free version of a music production app for like a year. He got so good at working around the limits that he actually made a track that got played on a local radio station. Never did upgrade, just kept using what he had.

That's honestly impressive. Respect to your buddy for making it work with what he had. Sometimes limitation forces creativity in a way that unlimited options never can.

Oh man, that's awesome! I did something similar with a video editing program in college. The free version had this huge watermark and you could only export in 720p, but I got so used to working around it that I could crank out projects way faster than people using the full suite. Having those limits actually forced me to learn keyboard shortcuts and hotkeys for everything. Did you ever try sticking with a free tool yourself just to see how far you could push it?
