Got kicked out of a coworking space in Chiang Mai for taking a work call

I was in a quiet zone at Punspace in Nimman last Thursday and took a quick 5 minute call with a client about a scheduling change. The manager came over and told me to leave because I broke their rules, even though I was whispering. Does your coworking space actually enforce quiet zones strictly or do they let little things slide?

Whoa, that's rough! But here's a thing I've noticed - a lot of those quiet zone rules are more about the vibe than the actual noise level. I was at a space in Bangkok where they'd let people take quick calls as long as you stepped into the phone booth area, but whispering at your desk was somehow worse? Maybe try asking if there's a designated call spot instead of just assuming the whole zone is totally silent. Some places are super chill about it until a manager has a bad day.

pat_harris, that Bangkok example is spot on but just a small thing - those phone booths actually absorb noise way better than whispering, so it makes sense from a design perspective. I think the real issue is that whispering creates this weird tension where everyone's trying to listen in, whereas a quick call in a booth is contained and nobody's straining to hear. Most coworking spaces I've seen actually have a rule about calls being okay in designated spots, it's the side conversations that get people annoyed (especially if you're sitting next to them).

Yeah, separate call booths totally saved me at my old coworking spot.
