Rant: A client told me my writing sounded like a robot

I was freelancing for a small biz in Austin and they flat out said my blog posts read like a corporate manual. They pointed out I used the same 5 buzzwords in every paragraph. So I cut all that junk and started writing how I actually talk to people at coffee shops. Now I read every post out loud before sending. Has anyone else had a client call out their tone like that?

Oh man, the "sounds like a corporate manual" line hits hard. I had a client once tell me my writing was "too polished" and it took me a second to realize that was not a compliment. I started reading everything out loud too, and it honestly fixes so many issues. If I stumble over a sentence when I say it, I know it needs to go. Also helps a ton with cutting out those dumb buzzwords you didn't even realize you were overusing.

Ngl that's such a good tip about reading out loud. I started doing that too and it's wild how many clunky sentences you catch that way.
