Unpopular opinion: 11 countries in is not the flex this sub makes it out to be
Everyone here loves to brag about how many countries they've hit, and I get why it sounds cool, but my own number bothered me. I hit 11 countries in 14 months while bouncing around Southeast Asia, and I thought I was killing it until I did the math on my spreadsheet. 41 flights, and when I tallied the average stay it came out to under 3 weeks per place. That was the number that got me, not 11. I could not tell you the name of the street my hostel was on in Da Nang or a single local spot I ate at twice in Chiang Mai. I was just moving my laptop from one cafe to the next and calling it a lifestyle. The slow travelers get roasted here as being lazy or unadventurous, but I think the country count race is the actual trap. Curious if anyone else has looked back at their own numbers and felt weird about them?
41 flights in 14 months is wild, you basically lived on the plane at that point. Did you at least keep the tiny pretzel bags as souvenirs? The spreadsheet math is brutal though, nothing like a cold average to kill the vibe.
