My brother-in-law watched me paint a ceiling and said 'you're fighting the roller, let it do the work'. I've been holding it wrong for 15 years.

Feel that in my bones. Same thing happened to me with a shovel. Pushed way too hard for years. Someone finally told me to just guide it. Changed everything. We get stuck in our ways and never question the method. It's wild how one piece of advice can undo a decade of bad habit.

Used to think you had to force it, but that guidance thing really does work.

Wait, is it really about not questioning the method though? I always figured the problem was that nobody ever taught us the right way to begin with. You can't question what you don't know is wrong. So you just keep pushing harder because that's all you've got. That guidance advice only works when someone finally points out the easier path.
