TIL why my baseboard gaps kept coming back even after caulking

I spent a whole weekend redoing trim in my living room and the gaps reappeared within a week. Turns out, I was using painter's caulk instead of a latex acrylic one that flexes with the wood movement. Anyone else learn this the hard way after a season change?

My buddy Dave caulked his entire bathroom baseboards with painters caulk and by winter it looked like a jigsaw puzzle falling apart. He was so mad he threw the whole tube in the trash.

Used to be one of those people who thought caulk is caulk and it don't matter... boy was I wrong. Learned that lesson the hard way after my kitchen trim looked like a mess by February. Now I grab the expensive stuff and never look back.

Oh man, tell me about it. I was painting my living room and used some cheap caulk from the dollar store on the crown molding. It looked fine for like two weeks then started peeling off in strips. Had to redo the whole thing. @xena_hernandez98 your buddy Dave's story sounds familiar. I even tried patching it with spackle but that just made a bigger mess. Now I just stick to the good stuff and save myself the headache.

Man that's rough, I totally feel your pain. Did the same thing in my hallway and woke up to cracks everywhere after the first cold snap.
