Bought a cheap plasma cutter on impulse, 300 bucks down the drain
I mean, it looked fine in the listing and the box was heavy, but the arc was so unstable it just gouged metal instead of cutting. Has anyone else had luck with those budget units under $400 or is it basically a lottery?
Yeah, sounds about right for that price range. I got one at a pawn shop for $250 and it cuts like a drunk person with a butter knife. You might be able to fix it by messing with the air pressure and tip size, but honestly you're better off saving another couple hundred and getting something with a decent brand name. The cheap ones just don't have the guts to hold a steady arc, and no amount of fiddling with settings is gonna change that.
