Can we talk about the new 'maker space' that opened in Springfield?
Walked through it last week and half the tools were already broken or missing, which is a joke for a $50 monthly fee. Anyone found a decent spot that actually maintains their gear?

The real test is how they handle the broken stuff. A good space has a clear board for reporting issues and shows the repair log. That monthly fee should basically be an insurance policy for quick fixes, not just rent for a parking spot. If they aren't transparent about maintenance, they're just a library with a liability waiver.

But hold on, @parker_webb, that's expecting a full time handyman on call. Most of these places run on thin margins. A public board just invites people to nitpick every little thing, and a repair log is just a list of complaints. The fee is for the space and the shared tools, not a promise that every drill will be brand new. Members should have some basic skill to work around minor issues or bring their own reliable tools for critical jobs.

Keith has a point about the thin margins, but that's exactly why a clear system matters. Parker_webb is right that a repair log isn't just a complaint list, it's a way to see if problems pile up or get fixed. If a bandsaw is down for a month, that tells you everything about how they value the fee.
