My shop wall was a disaster for 2 years and I fixed it in one Saturday with a $30 sheet of pegboard
For about 2 years every tool in my garage just lived in a pile on the floor next to my bench because I kept putting off building real storage. Last month I finally got fed up after tripping over my circular saw for the third time in one week, so I grabbed a 4x8 sheet of pegboard at the hardware store down the street for like $30. I threw up some 1x2 furring strips first, screwed the board to them, and then spent another $15 on a pack of hooks. Took me maybe 5 hours total including the trip, and now I can actually see my wrenches and clamps without digging. My only regret is not adding a second layer of furring strips at the bottom because the board flexes a bit when I hang anything heavy. Has anyone here dealt with pegboard sagging and did switching to a thicker sheet actually fix it?
My buddy Rob had the same sag problem and solved it by running a horizontal strip of 1x2 right across the middle behind the board. Says it stiffened things up fine and he never had to swap the pegboard out.
