Compared two moisture meters on my deck project, the $40 one beat the $200 one

The cheap pin-type meter gave me consistent readings across 12 boards while the expensive pinless one kept jumping around depending on how hard I pressed it, has anyone else had better luck with the old school style?

Wait, you're telling me a $40 tool gave you solid readings on 12 boards while the $200 one couldn't even stay consistent? That's wild, usually you get what you pay for but it sounds like the fancy tech is just overengineered for basic wood work. I've seen pinless meters struggle with surface contact too, so I'm not totally shocked, but still, that's a heck of a price gap for worse results.

Ha, @pat_harris you're right about the price gap, but honestly it's probably just me being lucky. I've burned $200 on worse tools before, so the cheap one working is basically a happy accident at this point.
