I switched all our redlines to a tablet last month and the field guys keep asking for paper again
I finally got tired of printing out full sets for every job and bought two cheap tablets so the crew could just mark things up in the field. After three weeks, the guys in the field are back to asking for paper because the screen gets useless in direct sun and gloved fingers don't hit the right spot. Turns out scrolling around a plan set on a 10 inch screen is slower than flipping a page when you're standing in 95 degree heat. I'm not saying paper is better for everything, but for as-builts it might be. Anyone found a tablet setup that actually works outside, or am I just throwing money at this?
Been there man, we tried the same thing with iPads in rugged cases and it lasted about a month before everyone was begging for paper again. The sun glare is killer and you can forget about marking up anything with sweaty hands, let alone gloves, so the tablets just sat in the truck while guys printed stuff behind my back. Paper sucks for a lot of reasons but out in the field with heat and dirt it still wins for redlines.
