Had a guy from the Gulf Coast tell me my swing line was too tight on the ladder dredge.
We were working a sand pit near Mobile and he pointed out the cable was singing. He said 'You're putting all the stress on one spot, loosen it a quarter inch and let it work.' I tried it the next shift and the whole rig ran smoother with less vibration. Anyone else adjust their swing line tension based on material type?

That's the opposite of our experience in the Florida phosphate pits. We tighten up a half-turn for clay to keep the bucket from wandering.

Honestly that Gulf Coast guy was spot on. Tbh we run ours a bit looser in clay than sand, makes a real difference.

Ever think about the actual bucket teeth and how worn they are? I mean, if your teeth are shot, a loose tilt in clay just lets it skate all over the place no matter what. But a newer bucket might dig in better with some slack. Maybe it's less about the soil and more about the shape of your cutting edge right now.
