That choice between steel and poly dredge hose last month

Had to pick between steel reinforced hose and polyurethane for a job on the Mississippi near Baton Rouge. Went with poly cause it was $800 cheaper for a 50 foot section. Three days in a rock snag tore a gash in it and I lost half a shift patching it. Steel woulda held up but I was trying to save my boss some cash. Next time I'm just getting the steel even if it costs more. Any of you guys had poly hose fail on you like that?

Oh man, that exact thing happened to me on a job near the Gulf last year. I went with poly to save money on a 40 foot section and a piece of submerged rebar ripped it open on day two. I was patching it for hours while the crew just stood around waiting lol. It was a good lesson though, steel is worth every penny for anything near rocks or debris.
