Finally got my corner bead game right after 6 years of ugly corners
Six years ago I started doing drywall full time and corners were always my weak spot, but yesterday I finished a 12 foot closet ceiling in my own garage and those corners came out dead sharp. I switched to paper tape on the bead instead of mesh and slowed way down with a 6 inch knife on the first coat. My neighbor who does commercial work swung by and ran his hand along the edge and just nodded, which for him is basically a hug. Took me about 2 hours for something a pro would knock out in 45 minutes, but it looks clean. How long did it take some of you before corners stopped being a fight?
Man, that first coat with the 6 inch knife is where most people mess up, they try to rush it and load way too much mud on the bead. Paper tape definitely beats mesh on outside corners, it just lays flatter and hugs the bead better. Two hours for a 12 foot ceiling is nothing to feel bad about, speed comes way later than clean.
