My uncle said to run the rock sideways on ceilings, and now I owe him a case of beer
My uncle has been hanging board for 22 years and when I started my own thing here in Wichita he told me to always run ceiling rock perpendicular to the joists, even on a 12 foot room where it means more butt joints. I figured he was just old school and did it my way on a 14 by 16 ceiling, and by the next morning I had a sag line across the middle you could see from the doorway. Tore it out, reran it his way with 1 5/8 screws every 8 inches, and it laid flat as a pancake. Cost me a full sheet and about 3 hours, plus the beer I owe him. Any of you run into ceiling sag on longer spans, and do you switch to 5/8 board for it?
