Rant: That Saturday Where I Finished a Whole House in 9 Hours and Another Took 3 Days
Last month I had two jobs back to back. First one in Austin, a 2,400 square foot tract home, flat ceilings, straight walls. Me and my partner hung 58 sheets by 3 PM, mudded twice by 6, and the homeowner tipped us $100 cash. Then the next gig, same square footage, but the framers left every stud bowed and the ceiling joists were off by 2 inches in places. We spent 3 days shimming, cutting, and re-hanging half the sheets. It made me wonder, how much of our speed is skill versus just having a decent frame to work with? Has anyone else had a week like that where you felt like a genius one day and a hack the next, and how do you even quote for that difference?

The "genius one day, hack the next" part hit me hard. Did a kitchen reno in two days last month, then spent a whole week fighting a wall that wouldn't square up. Makes you wonder if we're just along for the ride half the time.
