Serious question, does anyone else cut backer rod with a drywall saw?
Honestly I was today years old when I found out from an old-timer at the supply house in Tulsa that backer rod is supposed to be 25 percent wider than the gap, not just stuffed in till it feels snug. I have been eyeballing it for 6 years and wondering why half my caulk joints cracked open after a month. Ngl the math sounds small but 25 percent on a 1/2 inch gap is an extra 1/8 inch of squish and that is the whole point of the thing. I tried it on a bathroom remodel this week and the seal set up way cleaner. How do you all measure the gap without crawling on the floor with a tape?
