Tried taping a ceiling with a 6 inch knife versus a 10 inch, huge difference.
Had a job in Springfield last month, a big vaulted ceiling. Used my usual 6 inch knife for the first coat and it took forever, left ridges everywhere. Switched to a 10 inch knife for the second pass and it was way smoother, way faster. The wider blade just lays the mud down flat. Anyone else find a bigger knife is the only way for ceilings?

Man, do I ever feel your pain. I fought that same battle for years before I tried a bigger knife. That extra width just floats over the bumps and fills the low spots so much better. It cuts the work in half and leaves a finish that actually looks flat. I won't touch a ceiling now without my 12 inch.

Tell me about it, I fought my 6-inch like a bad habit before seeing @white.keith's light.
