Caught my friend trying to splice wires with duct tape at a party
I was at a friend's birthday party last weekend. He had a string of patio lights that kept cutting out. Instead of calling someone, he grabbed duct tape and tried to fix it live. I had to stop him before he shocked himself. It hit me how often people skip basic safety for a quick fix. Now I always carry a voltage tester in my truck, just in case. Seeing that made me appreciate why we train for this stuff.

So did your friend know it was dangerous and just ignore it, or was he totally clueless about the risk?

You know, I used to roll my eyes at safety talks, saw them as boring rules for other people. Watching my own neighbor do something similar with an extension cord last year really changed that. It was that same mix of not knowing and just not stopping to think. Now I see those basic rules aren't for experts, they're for the rest of us when we're in a hurry or feeling brave. That's why the training clicks, it prepares you for the moment common sense checks out.

Honestly, been that guy with the extension cord too many times myself. Tbh, it's a miracle my house hasn't burned down yet.
