Caught a toaster fire before the customer did, barely

Last Tuesday a guy brought in a toaster that smelled like burnt plastic, and I popped the base off to find a crumb pile fused into the heating coil, glowing orange. I unplugged it fast, but a grease splash from my coffee mug hit the coil and made a tiny pop that sent the guy jumping back. Anyone else had a repair that nearly turned into a firework show while the customer was standing right there?

Man, that crumb pile could've torched the whole kitchen, glad you caught it in time.
