Client told me my solder joints looked 'messy' and I was mad at first
He was right. I used too much flux and left residue everywhere. Started cleaning every joint with isopropyl alcohol after that and my work looks way cleaner now. Anyone else get feedback that stung at first but actually helped?

Ugh, "looked messy" - that one stings because it feels like a personal attack on your skill, not just the work. I had a similar thing with a mentor who told me my wire stripping technique was "sloppy." At first I was so annoyed, like dude I'm just trying to get this done. But he was totally right, I was leaving little nicks in the copper and it was causing intermittent shorts later on. Now I'm obsessive about clean cuts and my builds just work better the first time. It's hard to hear, but that kind of feedback is honestly a gift once you get past the initial burn.

Heard a buddy tell me last week his boss called his soldering joints "crusty" and he was fuming for two days. @kellyallen eventually he admitted the guy was right, the joints were brittle and kept breaking on him. It's funny how hard truths like that end up fixing your whole workflow after they stop stinging.

yeah @parker_webb brought up a similar thing and honestly i used to think people were just being picky for no reason. but once you actually clean up your technique the difference is night and day, hard to argue with results.
