Just realized we skip component checks too fast

I fixed a game console that wouldn't turn on by finding a blown fuse, not a dead board. Everyone said to replace the whole thing, but a two-dollar part did the trick. Do you think we give up on component-level repair too easily?

Remember tossing a whole stereo because it wouldn't power on. Found the same model at a thrift store later, opened it up out of curiosity, and saw one obvious broken wire. Felt pretty dumb. Now I at least pop the case open and stare at it for five minutes before calling something dead.

Ever fix something small just because you were bored and it ended up being way easier than you thought? I swapped a bad capacitor in a monitor once, assumed it was a lost cause, and it's still running years later. We definitely jump to replacing stuff before even looking.

Saturday afternoon, I finally looked at my flickering desk lamp. @jamesc79's monitor story reminded me that most 'broken' things just need a quick look. Ten minutes later, it was working, and I felt both smart and lazy for waiting so long.

It's funny how we'll live with broken stuff for months just to avoid a five minute check. My kitchen drawer has been sticking since spring and I just yank it hard every time. What makes us put up with the daily annoyance instead of just grabbing a screwdriver? I do the same with a loose outlet cover that clicks when you plug things in. Weird how our brains would rather cope than fix.
