Dropped $220 on a pex crimp tool and a pressure test kit that sat in my truck for 5 weeks
I do mostly small repairs and a few bathroom rough ins, so when a guy in Aurora asked me to repipe a whole basement I figured it was time to buy the real stuff. Spent $220 on a crimp tool, rings, and a gauge, then he ghosted me two days before I was supposed to start. That kit sat in my truck for 5 weeks before I finally used it on a $400 job, so I basically ate the cost for nothing. Lesson is not that tools are bad, it's that I bought for a project I never had a deposit on. Now I don't buy anything job specific until the check clears or at least half shows up. Anyone got a rule for when a tool is worth buying ahead of the work?
