Everyone here says slap a 5% late fee on day 31, and I tried that for 8 months with a web design client in Chicago. He ignored every invoice and the fee just made him dig in more, owed me $3,400 by the end. Last month I started sending a short email on day 14 that just asks if the invoice got lost, no fee talk at all. He paid in 9 days. Has anyone else found that the soft nudge beats the penalty?
