The 20-minute 'quick fix' that took 6 weeks to untangle
I took on a small WordPress tweak for a local bakery in Portland, figured it'd be a 20-minute job, so I skipped the written contract. Turned out the guy wanted a whole custom ordering system, and every time I sent a draft he'd reply with 'just one more thing,' and that one thing ate six weeks of my life. I finally walked away with half the money and a lesson that vague verbal agreements are how you end up building an e-commerce site for the price of a cupcake run. Has anyone else had a tiny task morph into a full-blown project because you didn't nail down scope on paper first?

Learned that one the HARD way when a "quick logo tweak" turned into a full rebrand and a month of unpaid overtime.
