Watched a guy at the Spokane show try to fit a size 5 shoe on a horse that clearly needed a 2, and it's not just him.
I see way too many folks ignoring the actual shape of the hoof wall and just going by the stamped number, which leads to a bad fit and a lame horse, so how do you all train your eye to see the right size before you even pick up a shoe?

Yeah, I've been that guy with the wrong shoe before, trust me.

Forget the number for a second and look at the ground. Watch where the hoof lands and rolls over during a walk. If the shoe sticks out past where the hoof naturally wants to go, it's too big, no matter what the stamp says. That overhang is what catches and pulls shoes off. I got in the habit of watching the horse move first, then picking a shoe that follows that line, not the other way around.
