Showerthought: Swapping my airlock for a piece of tape actually worked better

I kept getting infection in my first 3 sauerkraut batches because my cheap airlock kept popping loose. After reading some random blog, I taped a piece of cling wrap over the jar lid hole with a tiny slit and it sealed airtight - no mold in 6 weeks. Has anyone else ditched equipment for a hack that actually worked better?

Wait, you taping the lid just lets the air escape that easy? I always thought you needed some kind of special valve or drill hole for that to work. That is honestly blowing my mind right now.
