Unpopular opinion: my $20 ceramic weights beat those fancy glass ones every time
The glass ones kept floating and letting my kraut get moldy, but the ceramics hold everything down perfectly. Anyone have a good source for wide mouth jar weights that don't suck?

Oh, I was totally on team glass weights for years. I loved how they looked in the jar. But last summer I lost two big batches of pickles to that same floating issue, just a nasty white film on top. Switched to a heavy ceramic disc and haven't had a single problem since. It just sits there and does its job.

It's funny how often the simpler tool ends up being the right one.

Totally get that with the glass weights. Had the same mold problem with my sauerkraut last fall, which was a real bummer. Switched over to a basic stoneware weight from a local kitchen shop and it was a game changer. The thing is just heavy enough to keep everything fully submerged without any fuss. Honestly haven't looked back since making that switch.
