A client in Chicago said my first website price was 'confusingly low'
I quoted $300 flat for a simple 5-page site, and they asked if I was sure I could cover my costs. I switched to an hourly rate of $45, which felt more professional and fair for revisions. How do you decide between flat project fees and hourly for a first gig?

What's your gut say about how much they'll ask to change things? That's the real hourly test.

Remember that article about how clients never know what they want until they see it? My gut says they'll ask for a ton of changes, because the first draft is just them figuring out their own ideas. It's like they use your work as a rough sketch to finally understand the project. So you do all that work just to give them a starting point for their real requests. Isn't that the worst part of the whole deal?

Charge for three rounds of changes upfront.
