Client said my rates were 'too fair' and that changed everything

A small business owner told me I was undercutting myself by $15 an hour on logo work. I bumped it up and actually got more serious inquiries. Anybody else gotten blunt feedback that raised your rates?

That "too fair" comment really hits different doesn't it? I had a client say something similar a few years back and it made me realize I was basically giving away my work just to get jobs. I bumped my rates by about 30% after that and actually started getting more serious clients who stayed longer. Sometimes people see low prices and think the quality won't be there, so being too cheap can actually scare off the good customers.

Got a client once who straight up told me my prices were "suspiciously low" and then hired someone else for twice as much. That stung. Took me a while to realize he was basically saying I looked like I didn't know what I was doing. Now my rates are high enough that I can afford to screw up a little and still break even, which is honestly not the best flex but at least I'm not working for coffee money anymore.
