A prospect in Dallas told me straight up my second email felt pushy because it came just two days after my first. I switched to waiting a full week, and my reply rate jumped from like 15% to almost 40%. What's the sweet spot you all use for timing after a cold pitch?

My neighbor said you need a $5k mount for good deep sky shots, but my old tripod worked fine

I just added a 10lb weight bag to my basic tripod for stability and got a clean 30-second exposure of the Orion Nebula. Has anyone else made a cheap setup work for them?

I thought the new comic shop in town was just for show, but they actually have a great back issue section

When they opened up 'The Panel' six months ago, I figured it was just another place selling Funko Pops and movie merch. I went in last week looking for a specific issue of Moon Knight, issue #25 from the 2014 run. The owner spent like 20 minutes digging and actually found it in a longbox in the back, priced fairly too. Totally changed my mind about the place. Anyone else have a local shop that surprised them like that?

Spent a month in Bali and the 'work from cafe' thing felt totally broken

I was in Canggu, and every single cafe was packed with people on calls, making it impossible to find a quiet spot or a reliable plug. The vibe was more like a loud office than a chill place to work, and the wifi kept dropping during my client Zoom. Question about pre-heating on high alloy steel welds

I keep seeing guys skip the pre-heat on P91 pipe because they're in a rush, arguing the interpass temp is enough. But the spec sheet from the mill in Gary says 400F minimum to prevent cracking. Who's right here, the old hands or the paperwork?

Found an old Sears catalog in my attic with the price for a kitchen sink

I was cleaning out my attic last weekend and found a 1978 Sears catalog... the whole kitchen sink and faucet set was listed at $89.50. I just paid over $400 for something pretty similar at Home Depot last month. It's wild how the cost of even basic home stuff has gone up, but also makes you think about how much more choice we have now. Has anyone else run across old prices that made you do a double take?

I needed a specific permit form for a home project and called the office like 5 times, getting transferred in circles each time. On the last try, I just asked 'Can you please give me the exact website link and form number I need to download?' and the guy actually did it. Has anyone else found that being super specific with your question is the only way to get help sometimes?

TIL that asking 'stupid' questions at my new job actually saved a project

I started a data entry gig last month and my boss said to just 'ask anything' if I was confused. I thought that was just nice talk, so I kept quiet about a weird number pattern I saw. After two days, I finally asked if the repeating '999' codes were normal. Turns out, it was a huge system error that would have messed up a whole client report for a company in Austin. My boss said 'See? That's why we have the rule.' Has anyone else had a simple question stop a bigger problem?
