Just had a chat with my uncle that flipped my whole view on pricing
He runs a small plumbing business and asked me about my first freelance wiring job. I told him I was thinking of charging way low, like 200 bucks, just to get the work. He looked me dead in the eye and said, 'Vera, you're not just selling your time, you're selling your skill and your insurance. If you price it like a hobby, they'll treat it like one.' That hit different because I was only thinking about getting the gig, not what happens after. He explained that a fair price sets the tone for the whole job and protects you if something goes sideways. Now I'm rethinking my whole quote for a kitchen rewire I'm bidding on. How do you figure out that line between getting the job and not selling yourself short?

Oh man, I read something similar about how your price is a signal of your confidence. Undercharging just invites problems.

Tell that to my landlord when I try paying rent with confidence instead of money.

Yeah, it's wild how that works in so many small ways. Like when you haggle at a flea market, the person who acts like something is worth more usually gets a better deal. The vibe you give off totally changes the game.
