Spent $60 on a contract template, saved my first client project

I landed my first real freelance job last month for a small local bakery, and I almost priced it at $150 flat. Then I paid $60 for a proper contract template from a lawyer's site, and it had a clause about scope changes and late fees. The client added three extra revisions after the second draft, and I used the template to charge an extra $40 each time. Without that template, I would have eaten those hours and ended up making minimum wage. The $60 felt painful upfront, but it paid for itself on the very first job. Honestly, I think you got lucky, not smart. That template did nothing a quick Google search couldn't have done for free, and $60 on a first gig is basically gambling you'll even land a second one.
