Honestly, people keep telling me to skip the sewer scope inspection to save $200. Saw a buddy in Phoenix get hit with a $12k line replacement two months after closing.

Saving two hundred bucks sounds great until you're the one standing in a yard full of raw sewage. Your buddy in Phoenix probably thought he was a genius too, right up until that twelve thousand dollar bill showed up. That's not saving money, that's just buying a huge problem with extra steps. Some people just really like to gamble with their life savings, I guess.

That line about "saving the cash with zero issues" is the whole problem. People see the one time it worked out and ignore the ten times it didn't. It's like not wearing a seatbelt because you made it home safe once. You're betting your whole house on a maybe. That's not being smart with money, it's just hoping you get lucky. The pattern is always paying a little now to avoid a disaster later.
