Our realtor gave us a tough choice between two houses in Springfield

We had to pick between a bigger, older fixer-upper and a smaller, move-in ready place that was $15,000 over our ideal budget. We went with the smaller one because the inspection came back clean and we just couldn't handle a major project right now. For those who chose the 'needs work' house, how did you manage the extra costs and stress?

The "sweat equity" dream always costs double.

@knight.uma you're so right, my last project cost triple the sweat and cash.

Totally get going with the smaller, ready house. That stress is no joke. @sullivan.quinn has a point about costs running wild, and it's so true. We bought a place that needed a new roof right away, and the surprise bills just keep coming. Sometimes the peace of mind is worth going over budget a little.
