Vent: My friend's mom told her to skip the inspection to make her offer stronger
I was having coffee with a friend yesterday who's trying to buy a house in Phoenix, and she said her mom, who bought a place in the 90s, told her to waive the home inspection to beat other offers. I mean, idk, maybe it's just me but that sounds like a huge risk. My friend was really considering it because she's lost out on three houses already. She said the market is so fast there that people are doing crazy stuff. I tried to tell her that even if you get the house, you could be stuck with a $20k foundation problem you never saw coming. It made me think about how advice from a different time might not work now, or maybe it's just bad advice. Has anyone else gotten pressure to skip important steps just to compete?

Told my realtor I needed an inspection no matter what. We found a house with bad wiring and dodged a huge bullet.

It's crazy how many people try to skip basic safety steps just to make a sale go faster. You see it with used cars, rental apartments, all sorts of big purchases. That wiring could have started a fire, and someone wanted you to just ignore checking it. Makes you wonder what else gets pushed under the rug every single day. Always trust your gut and demand the basics.

Yeah, that "trust your gut" part is so true.

Good call telling your realtor you needed an inspection no matter what, @keith164. But honestly, you shouldn't have to tell them that, it should be the standard. A realtor pushing to skip it is a red flag.
