Dropped $800 on a moisture meter for a big glue-down job and it paid for itself in a day

Got a contract for a 3,000 sq ft office glue-down in an old building downtown. The concrete slab felt dry, but I had a bad feeling. Bought a high-end Wagner meter, and sure enough, the readings were way over spec in the back corner. Told the GC, they brought in a drying system for a week before we could start. Anyone else had a meter save a job from a callback disaster?

Man, that reminds me of a job where the client swore they had a vapor barrier under their slab. My meter was screaming wet, but they kept arguing. Ended up having to do a plastic sheet test right there in the living room to prove it. The look on their face when we pulled up that soaking wet plastic was something else, lol. Cost them an extra week for a proper sealant system, but man, that meter saved a huge fight down the road.

Absolutely saved my bacon on a basement remodel last year. My cheap meter said it was fine, but I borrowed a buddy's Tramex and found a huge wet spot under where the new kitchen was going. Had to delay two days for a patch and seal, but it beat tearing out a ruined floor a month later.

Wait, your cheap meter said it was DRY? That's wild. Those things can be so off it's scary. A two day delay is nothing compared to a moldy floor disaster. Good call using a real tool.
